UM English Debating Team wins championship at Macau English Debating Association British Parliamentary Invitational

The University of Macau (UM) English Debating Team (EDT) recently won the championship at the Macau English Debating Association British Parliamentary Invitational 2016, after beating 24 teams from different countries and regions, including Singapore, South Korea, Hong Kong, and mainland China. A member of the team also won the Best Debater Award in the grand final.

After five preliminaries, the UM Team A, formed by Elise Cheong and Esther Chen, entered the grand final. They debated teams from the National University of Singapore, the University of Hong Kong, and other teams from Macao. In the end, the UM Team A won the championship of the tournament and Cheong received the Best Debater Award in the grand final. Cheong and Chen were ranked No 5 and No 7 among all debaters in the tournament, respectively. Tristan Li, Alex Fong, and Becky Lam from the UMEDT each received a Best Local Debater Award.
