Prof Chung Ling, founding master of the University of Macau’s (UM) Cheng Yu Tung College, on 2 December received a certificate of commendation from the Hong Kong SAR government, in recognition of her outstanding contributions to the arts and culture in Hong Kong during her tenure as the dean of the Faculty of Arts at Hong Kong Baptist University by establishing several influential literary programmes and by providing services to government committees.

Prof Chung Ling is a renowned fiction writer, poet, and scholar of China-West comparative literary studies. She held leadership positions at well-known universities in the United States and Taiwan for 20 years. She was the dean of the Faculty of Arts, chair professor, and associate vice-president at HKBU. During her time at HKBU, she founded the International Writers Workshop and the Dream of the Red Chamber Award: the World’s Distinguished Novel in Chinese.

The certificate presentation ceremony was held at Hong Kong Cultural Centre in Kowloon. Mr Tsang Tak-sing, secretary for home affairs, presided at the ceremony.
