Prof Ken Tam awarded Fellow of The Institution of Engineering and Technology (IET)

Prof Ken Tam Kam Weng, professor of the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering of the Faculty of Science and Technology (FST), and associate dean (research and graduate studies) of the FST, was recently elected fellow of the Institution of Engineering and Technology (IET), in recognition of his outstanding contributions to research innovation and his influence in the field. Prof Tam is the first from Macao to receive this honour.

With a history of over 150 years, the IET is the world’s leading organisation of engineers and technicians, known for its high-quality members. The fact that Prof Tam was selected from the IET’s nearly 160,000 members in 127 countries and regions to be awarded the fellowship, the highest membership status of the IET, shows international recognition of his contributions in the field of electrical and computer engineering.

Prof Tam specialises in microwave filter theory and design. He has conducted thorough research on reforming microwave filter theory into high performance compact implementation in planar technology. His main research achievements include Ultra-Wide Band Microwave Filters, Differential Microwave Filters and Wide Bandwidth and Center Frequency Tunable Microwave Filters for modern wireless communication applications. Prof Tam is a volunteer supervisor and organiser for high school students’ wireless education programmes. He is also an active promoter of Radio Frequency Identification (RFID), contributing to the sustainable development of wireless technology-based engineering education programmes.
