Luo Yutong, the 2012 Olympics gold medalist in the men’s synchronized 3-metre springboard category, on 15 October gave a talk on his career as a professional diving athlete at the University of Macau (UM) Henry Fok Pearl Jubilee College.

The talk started with stories about how Luo fell in love with diving and became a professional athlete in the Chinese National Diving Team, which is considered the “Diving Dream Team”. He shared with students some of the highs and lows in his career, including the excitement he felt when winning the gold medal at the Olympics, and the hardships he faced when he had to quit the national team and change from 10m platform to 3m springboard because of his injury. He encouraged the students to pursue their dreams no matter how hard the road may be.

The talk provided an opportunity for college members to learn about the blood, sweat and tears behind the success of a professional athlete, and taught them to be resilient and persistent in the face of failure.
