UM faculty members, students now have free access to 2.5 million e-books

The University of Macau (UM)’s library has signed an agreement with China Academic Digital Associative Library (CADAL). According to the agreement, UM faculty members and students now have free access to the 2.5 million electronic books available on the digital platform.

Formerly known as China-America Digital Academic Library, CADAL was initially funded by the Chinese government and collaborating organisations in the United States. It is hosted and serviced by Zhejiang University. Its members include prestigious universities around the world, including Harvard University, Yale University, Cornell University, Peking University, Tsinghua University, and the University of Hong Kong. Currently, CADAL’s database contains 2.5 million electronic books, including approximately 2 million in Chinese and 500,000 in English. This database is a very powerful aid in research, especially in the fields of humanities, social science, and Chinese medicine.

Some UM faculty members and researchers say that the free access to CADAL will be very convenient and will provide great support to their research projects.
