Two members of the University of Macau (UM) English Debating Team (EDT) recently made it to the semifinal of the World Universities Debating Championship (WUDC) 2016, in the English as Foreign Language (EFL) category.

The WUDC is the most prestigious debating tournament in the world. This year’s competition was held in Thessaloniki, Greece, and attracted 400 teams from 350 universities in over 80 countries, including the University of Oxford, Harvard University, Monash University, and Tsinghua University.

The students who advanced to the semifinal are Sindy Leong, a fourth-year student from the Faculty of Social Sciences and a member of the Lui Che Woo College, and Kitty Kwok, a fourth-year student from the Faculty of Law and a member of the Stanley Ho East Asia College.

Another English Debating Team member, Elise Cheong, a second-year student from the Faculty of Business Administration and a member of the Siu Pong College, also participated in the competition as an adjudicator.
