UM Signed a Cooperation Agreement with TIGSIn Joint Efforts to carry out the Studies of Urban Pollution Control

 

The Faculty of Science and Technology (FST) of the University of Macau signed a cooperation agreement with The Transdisciplinary Initiative for Global Sustainability (TIGS) of the University of Tokyo yesterday (30th) . It is mutually expected to promote further cooperation between two parties on educational and academic cooperation and friendship.

The Transdisciplinary Initiative for Global Sustainability engages in research focused on sustainability in Asia, an issue of decisive significance to global sustainability. Through "problem structuring" and "academic structuring", TIGS will publicly announce social designs and policies that will facilitate the realization of a sustainable society. TIGS acquainted FST at the International Symposium on "Food and Water Sustainability in China 2007” early this year, in which TIGS has shown great interest to FST’s research paper. Through the special cooperation with FST, TIGS hopes that both parties will share common fields of research in urban pollution control which is important in sustaining the environmental development of Macao.

The cooperation suggested in the agreement includes visits of faculty members to deliver lectures, hold seminars, discussions and teach courses, conduct research and supervise student studies, joint organization of academic meetings and collaboration of faculty and students in research projects. The signing ceremony was held at noon yesterday at the Conference Room of Luso-Chinese Building, University of Macau, officiated by Professor Akimasa Sumi, Executive Director, TIGS, the University of Tokyo and Professor Li Yiping, Dean of FST, University of Macau.
