The University of Macau (UM) recently held a conference titled ‘International Commission on Mathematical Instruction (ICMI) Study 23: Primary Mathematics Study on Whole Numbers’. The five-day event attracted more than 90 experts and scholars from 22 countries and regions, including mainland China, Macao, Hong Kong, Taiwan, Singapore, France, Germany, South Africa, the United States, and Brazil. Participants discussed the latest developments of the use of whole numbers in primary mathematics education. The event was co-organised by the ICMI, DSEJ, and UM’s Faculty of Education.
