New Bachelor’s Degree Programmes of FBA of the University of Macau

To cope with the development of society and the University’s 5-Year Development Plan, the University of Macau (UM) has revised its bachelor’s degree programmes of the Faculty of Business Administration (FBA), which will be offered in the coming academic year. Benchmarked with the curricula in well-known universities worldwide, the new programmes in FBA can develop the students’ all-round talent and capacity by strengthening general education and enhancing the level of specialization. The University’s admission examination of the bachelor’s degree programmes is now open for application until 13 March.

In the 2009/2010 academic year, UM will offer bachelor’s degree progammes with 32 majors offered by five faculties: Faculty of Business Administration (FBA), Faculty of Education (FED), Faculty of Law (FLL), Faculty of Social Sciences and Humanities (FSH), and Faculty of Science and Technology (FST).

After the revision, the eight original bachelor’s degree programmes in FBA have been streamlined into four new programmes, namely: i) Bachelor of Business Administration – with six different majors: Electronic Business, Business Economics, Global Business Management, Human Resources Management, Marketing, and Financial Controllership. Students who have chosen one of the six majors will receive a degree of Bachelor of Business Administration specified with the respective major when they graduate. If they have neither chosen any major during their studies nor take the required courses for a particular major, they will receive a degree of Bachelor of Business Administration without indication of the major; ii) Bachelor of Science in Accounting; iii) Bachelor of Science in Finance; iv) Bachelor of Science in Gaming and Hospitality Management.

Prof. Simon Shun-Man HO, Vice Rector-designate (Academic Affairs), stated in the press conference that the revision, on one hand, is part of the University’s overall curriculum reform, which aims to strengthen general education, improve the undergraduate education and foster an all-round development of the students. On the other hand, it aims to cope with the development of society and enhance the level of specialization of the business education. Therefore, three Bachelor of Science programmes have been added to strengthen the professional training in accounting, finance, and gaming and hospitality management respectively. In addition, the newly revised programmes have been designed in line with those of well-known universities worldwide.
