UM Donated Over 70,000 MOP for Taiwan Typhoon Victims

In response to the devastating typhoon that hit Taiwan on 8 August, the University of Macau (UM) called on its staff and students to donate money to help typhoon victims. Two rounds of donation campaigns resulted in a total of 73,121 MOP which yesterday (15 Augsut) was handed over to the Macau Red Cross.

 

On 8 August, Typhoon Morakot pummeled southern Taiwan, causing the worst flooding and mudslides in decades. Many affected areas turned into hells on earth. On hearing the news, UM immediately called on its staff and students to donate money to help typhoon victims rebuild their hometowns. The first round of donation campaign resulted in a total of 60,936 MOP, 3951.3HKD and 20.3RMB, while the second round after the start of the new semester resulted in a total of 7980 MOP and 100 HKD, bringing the total donations to 73,121 MOP.

UM Rector Wei Zhao, IPR Head Ms. Katrina Cheong, and two students have already handed the donations over to Macau Red Cross on behalf of UM staff and students.
