28th Portuguese Language and Culture Summer Programme to open at UM

The University of Macau’s (UM) Department of Portuguese will launch the 28th Portuguese Language and Culture Summer Programme on 14 July. The programme will last until 6 August. The opening ceremony will be held at UM’s Cultural Centre on Thursday 17 July at 6:30 pm.

The programme aims to spread knowledge of the Portuguese language and culture.  Approximately 500 students from different Asian countries and regions, including mainland China, Macao, Hong Kong, South Korea, Vietnam, Thailand, Singapore, and Malaysia, applied for the programme, and 370 were accepted. Local students are entitled to sponsorship from the Education and Youth Affairs Bureau of Macao SAR.

The programme is expected to help Macao better fulfill its role as a bridge between Eastern and Western cultures. It will also give participants an opportunity to learn more about the social, economic, political and cultural developments of Macao.

This year’s courses will be divided into 12 sections at four levels: Beginners’ Level, Basic Level, Intermediate Level, and Advanced Level. Apart from regular classes and practices, the programme will also include colorful cultural and recreational activities, such as visits, seminars, movies, drawing lessons and Portuguese folk dances.
