Prof. Elvis Mak Pui-In has been named IEEE Distinguished Lecturer Photo Download

Prof. Elvis Mak Pui-In, coordinator of the Wireless Research Line of the State-Key Laboratory of Analog and Mixed-Signal VLSI and associate professor of the Faculty of Science and Technology, both at the University of Macau (UM), has been named Distinguished Lecturer of the IEEE Circuits and Systems Society (CASS) for the 2014-2015 period.

This appointment recognises Prof. Mak’s pioneering contribution to high/mixed-voltage analog integrated circuits and systems, as well as his multi-disciplinary research on intelligent digital microfluidics, rendering him one of the youngest IEEE Distinguished Lecturers of CASS, and the first scholar from Macao to receive this prestigious honour. More importantly, Prof. Mak was born and educated in Macao. He received his bachelor’s and PhD degrees from UM.

IEEE Distinguished Lecturers are engineering professionals who help lead their fields in new technical developments that shape the global community. These experts specialise in the field of interest of their societies/councils, and travel to various technical and regional groups, such as the Society and Technical Council Chapters, to lecture at events.

Nominated candidates go through a rigorous evaluation process by the CASS Distinguished Lecturer Program Committee, are then voted by the CASS Board of Governors, and the final appointment is made by the president of CASS. Past IEEE Distinguished Lecturers of CASS include a number of top-notch scholars and IEEE fellows. Examples are UM Honorary Professor Franco Maloberti for the 2012-2013 period, who is the president-elect of CASS from 2014 to 2015; Prof. Sung-Mo Kang for the 2003-2005 period, who is currently the president of the Korean Advanced Institute of Science and Technology (KAIST); and Prof. Chung-Yu Wu for the 2000-2001 period, who is the former president of National Chiao Tung University in Taiwan.

CASS is one of the most-established IEEE societies with a history of more than 60 years and contributions to the community. CASS is ranked No. 9 among the 38 IEEE societies in terms of membership (It has more than 10,000 members worldwide as of 2012).
