PJC and EAC co-organise Artist-in-Residence Programme

The University of Macau’s (UM) Pearl Jubilee College (PJC) and East Asia College (EAC) are co-organising the Artist-in-Residence Programme, which includes a series of public talks and student workshops in November. The purpose of the programme is to enhance students’ and the public’s conceptual and historical understanding of the visual arts, especially the history and culture of Macao, through artistic practice, construed as a form of creative research expression.

In the opening talk titled “Mapping Urban Imaginary”, which will take place on 5 November, Dr. Chu Yinhua, assistant professor of the Department of Fine Arts at Tunghai University in Taichung, will introduce her own photographic practices as well as how to explore the history and culture of Macao with cyanotype printing.

On 8 November, Dr. Nicole Yi-Hsin Lai, director and chief curator of the Art Square Taiwan, correspondent of artistic activities in southern Taiwan for ARTCO Magazine, and writer of the journal Made in Tainan, will share her experience in organising exhibitions across different cultures. Dr. Lai will discuss the curator’s role as the facilitator of projects between art, artists and the community, as well as ways to make exhibitions happen in the community to connect art, artists and the general public.

The public talks will be held at Creative Macau—The Center for Creative Industries, from 7pm to 8:30pm. All are welcome. The talks will be conducted in English, with interpretation into Putonghua provided by PJC’s Consecutive Interpretation Group. For more information, please call 8397-4922.
