University of Macau (UM) students Kuong Chi Kei and Chui Lok I from the Faculty of Business Administration (FBA) won the first runner-up prize at the HSMAI Case Study Competition 2012, for the pre-opening sales and marketing plan they created for a downtown hostel, with guidance from Dr. Amy So.

Organised by the Hospitality Sales and Marketing Association International (HSMAI) – Greater China Chapter, the competition attracted several universities from Macao, mainland China, Hong Kong, and Thailand.

The two rounds of selection, the first round of selection made by academics from six Asian universities and the second by executives from the industry, were based on the level of organisation and communication of the participating teams as well as the originality and practicability of their pre-opening sales and marketing plans.
