UM professor publishes a book on Macao’s history in Ming dynasty

Following his previous work Studies on Christianity in Ming and Qing Dynasties—with Macau as the Springboard, Prof Tang Kaijian from the Department of History at the University of Macau (UM) recently published a new book Studies on Macau History in Ming Dynasty, through the Heilongjiang Education Press. This book is a project of the National Publishing Foundation and belongs to the Classic Series of Contemporary Studies on Borderland.

Consisting of two volumes with more than 700,000 words, the book combines textual research on the geographical names, events and documents with an analysis of the total history of Macao in Ming dynasty, including the Portuguese’s arrival and settlement in Macao, politics, economy (trade and taxation), the interaction between Chinese and Western cultures, the development of city life, Sino-Portuguese relations, the geographical history of Macao, the spread of Christianity in Macao, and so on. It provides a new perspective in the studies of the history of Macao.
