UM academic’s book published by a leading scientific publisher

University of Macau (UM) Chair Professor Tang Yuanyan from the Faculty of Science and Technology earlier this year published a monograph Document Analysis and Recognition by Wavelet and Fractal Theories in the name of UM through the World Scientific Publishing Company, one of the world’s leading scientific publishers.

Prof Tang is an expert on pattern recognition and intelligent systems, and a fellow of the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers and the International Association for Pattern Recognition. He joined UM in 2011, and is now one of the nine chair professors at UM. His research interests mainly include pattern analysis and machine intelligence, knowledge and data engineering, wavelet and multiresolution analysis, information security and Chinese computing, etc. He has published more than 300 papers, with a citation frequency of over 3000.

So far the World Scientific Publishing Company has published seven books authored, co-authored or edited by Prof Tang, including four monographs, Document Analysis and Recognition by Wavelet and Fractal Theories, Wavelet Theory Approach to Pattern Recognition, Wavelet Theory and Its Application to Pattern Recognition, and Computer Transformation of Digital Images and Patterns, as well as three edited books, Multimodal Interface for Human-Machine Communications, Agent Engineering, and Advances in Oriental Document Analysis and Recognition Techniques. Document Analysis and Recognition by Wavelet and Fractal Theories is Prof Tang’s latest work completed after he joined UM. It is a fruit of his research on pattern recognition, which in recent years has become an important branch of computer sciences.

The World Scientific Publishing Company is one of the leading scientific publishers in the world, and the largest international scientific publisher in the Asia-Pacific region. It publishes approximately 500 publications and 120 journals in various fields every year. Many books published by it have been recommended by top universities like Harvard, Princeton, Stanford and California Institute of Technology as textbooks.
