PhD student Lin Zhicheng, Prof. Elvis Mak Pui In and Prof. Rui Martins from the University of Macau’s (UM) State-Key Laboratory of Analog and Mixed-Signal VLSI have co-developed the world’s smallest-power-and-area CMOS ZigBee receiver for short-range wireless applications. The paper on this project will be presented at the 60th International solid-State Circuits Conference (ISSCC) of the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE), to be held in San Francisco, United States, in February 2013. ISSCC is internationally recognised as the Chip Olympics. Over three thousand people from academia and industry are expected to attend this year’s conference. Approximately 200 papers have been accepted, among which about 50 per cent are from industry. The paper UM will present at the conference is entitled “A 1.7mW 0.22mm2 2.4GHz ZigBee RX Exploiting a Current-Reuse Blixer + Hybrid Filter Topology in 65nm CMOS”. This will be UM’s fourth technical paper on chips presented at ISSCC between 2011 and 2013, making UM co-rank No. 1 in China with the Hong Kong University of Science and Technology (HKUST) and Fudan University.

Another paper to be presented at the conference is “An Extremely Power-and-Area-Efficient Three-Stage Amplifier for LCD Display Drivers”, by PhD student Yan Zushu, Prof. Elvis Mak Pui In, Dr. Matthew Law Man Kay and Prof. Rui Martins. This will be UM’s first paper to be presented in the “ISSCC Student Research Preview” Session.
