University of Macau (UM) students Lam Un Wa and Ma Guang from the Department of History have been awarded scholarships to pursue a master’s degree and a PhD degree at Waseda University and Ghent University respectively. Another five students of the Department of History, namely Liu Jiaqi, Wendy Wei, Ark CAi, Edwina Wa and Andrew Yao, will pursue master’s degrees at the University of Kansas, the American University, the University of Hong Kong, the Chinese University of Hong Kong and Taiwan Central University, respectively.

Lam Un Wa’s graduation thesis, entitled “The Role of the Pro-Communist Newspapers and Journals in Shaping Macao Society between the 1960s and the 1970s”, was supervised by Prof. Wei Chuxiong. Lam Un Wa has been actively involved in various academic and social activities. With her outstanding performance and strong research capacity, she has been awarded a scholarship by the Ting Hsin International Group to study at Waseda University.

Ma Guang has been awarded a PhD scholarship by Ghent University in Belgium to conduct a comparative analytical investigation into both written literature and archaeological evidence as well as a cross-cultural analysis of existing literature and archaeological evidence from South Korea and Japan, with focus on the "Yuan-Ming rupture", when China experienced great changes in maritime commerce and policies.
