Faculty of Science and Technology professors visit Mitsubishi Heavy Industries, Ltd.

With the development of Macao’s economy and the construction of the light rail transit (LRT) system, Macao has attracted different types of foreign companies to set up their branches in Macao. The Japan-based Mitsubishi Heavy Industries, Ltd. (MHI), which designs the LRT system for Macao, is one of such companies. Recently Prof. Tam Kam Weng, director of government relations and industry liaison of the Faculty of Science and Technology (FST), and Dr. Wong Seng Fat, assistant professor of the Department of Electromechanical Engineering, FST, visited MHI, to discuss scientific research cooperation and personnel training, among other things.
FST professors met with MHI’s Project Manager Mr. Kenji Fujioka, MHI’s Business Manager Mr. Yoshitaka Kaneko, MHI’s Engineering Manager Mr. Martin Leung, and some graduates of FST who are now working at MHI. During the meeting, MHI shared the progress of the LRT system design, personnel training and the future development of MHI. Mr. Hack Fu, a graduate of the Department of Electromechanical Engineering, said that MHI attaches great importance to staff training, and organizes various training opportunities, including classroom training by experienced engineers, language training and overseas internships.
MHI manufactures a broad range of products, including aerospace rockets, power-generation facilities, ships, industrial equipment, home air conditioners, transportation systems, etc. Currently, MHI has eight branches in Japan, around seventy thousand full-time employees worldwide, six research and development centres and ten overseas branches.
