University of Cambridge’s former Vice-Chancellor Alison Richard and her husband visit UM

During yesterday’s visit to the University of Macau (UM), Prof. Alison Richard, former vice-chancellor of the University of Cambridge, praised UM for its achievements despite its short history and expressed hope that UM can successfully join the ranks of world-class universities with the support of the new campus and the new education model.

Prof. Alison Richard and her husband Prof. Robert E. Dewar, a senior research scientist at Yale University, were warmly received by UM Rector Wei Zhao and Vice Rector (Academic Affairs) Simon Ho. Wei Zhao and Simon Ho shared the history and recent development of UM, the new campus, the new “4-in-1” pedagogical model, the residential colleges, the Honours College, and general education, among others, and exchanged ideas on higher education development with the guests. Alison Richard praised UM for daring to innovate as a young institution to implement a new education model, and expressed hope that UM can successfully join the ranks of world-class universities with the support of the new campus and the new education model.

The University of Cambridge has a history of approximately eight hundred years, and its residential college system is a role model for many universities around the world. After relocation to the new campus, UM will borrow the experience of world-class universities to fully implement a residential college system and transform into a residential-college university, so as to provide the students with an environment conducive to whole-person education.
