The University of Macau’s (UM) Honours College (HC) held the first Undergraduate Honours Project Symposium on 25 April 2012. Thirty-nine Class of 2012 HC students, expected to graduate this summer, presented findings of their individual undergraduate academic research projects.

At HC’s first Undergraduate Honours Project Symposium, students discussed a wide range of research topics covering different areas of studies, including theories and applications in business administration, applications and analysis of Macao laws and international laws, engineering and mathematical theories and their applications, theoretical studies and development of education situations in the local community, theoretical studies and applications in the areas of psychology, sociology, linguistics and Chinese literature, theory application, sociological research, and Chinese literature and linguistics research.

In addition to presentation of findings of research projects, project posters produced by students were also exhibited in a showroom opposite to the presentation venues. Students said that during the past year they were fully occupied with academic commitments and research projects, but they received guidance from their project supervisors and support from their parents and classmates, which helped them grow at both personal and academic levels and will continue to benefit them in their future studies and work.

“Honours Project” is the last component of the Honours Programme, through which each HC student conducts a one-year honours project, with a research topic related to the student’s field of study. All HC students are required to conduct an individual academic research project with guidance from supervisors of their respective faculties, and then present the results of their projects at the Undergraduate Honours Project Symposium held at the end of each academic year.
