Recently the Youth Association of International Affairs (YAIA), which is affiliated with the University of Macau (UM) Postgraduate Association, won the Best Team Prize, Best Presentation Prize, and Best Speaker Prize at the seventh Macao-Hong Kong-Guangdong Forum for International Relations Students.

The forum has been hosted by tertiary institutions in south China in rotation. This year participating institutions included UM, Sun Yat-sen University, Guangdong University of Foreign Studies, Jinan University, South China Normal University, and Hong Kong Baptist University. Participating teams played delegates of different countries and conducted lively debates and discussions about some hot international affairs like the territorial dispute over the ownership of the Spratly Island.

UM team mainly comprised students of the Department of Government and Public Administration specializing in International Relations. Despite the fact that this is the first time they have taken part in this forum, they did impressively well and finally won the Best Team Prize, Best Presentation Prize, and the Best Speaker Prize (by student Chen Qiaoyu).

Prof. Wang Jianwei, head of the Department of Government and Public Administration, is very pleased with the team’s performance, saying that the fact that the team defeated strong contestants and won three prizes at the forum shows the high quality of training provided by UM’s International Relations program and is certainly worth celebrating.
