World-renowned scholar Prof. Ng Yew-Kwang to give a lecture on the common mistakes in economics at UM

Prof. Ng Yew-Kwang, visiting professor of the Department of Economics at the University of Macau (UM) and recipient of the 2007 Distinguished Fellow Award from the Economic Society of Australia, will give a lecture entitled “Common Mistakes in Economics by the Public, Students, Economists, and Nobel Laureates” at UM on 7 November 2011.

At the lecture, Prof. Ng will discuss many common mistakes in economics made by the general public, students, and economists, including Nobel laureates, which partly contribute to the inefficiency of inappropriate policies.

Prof. Ng holds a personal chair at Monash and has been a fellow of the Academy of Social Sciences in Australia since 1980. In 2007 he received the Distinguished Fellow Award from the Economics Society of Australia. So far he has published more than two hundred papers on biology, mathematics, philosophy, psychology, and sociology in numerous academic journals, including American Economic Review, Economica, Economic Journal, Journal of Political Economy, and Review of Economic Studies. Prof. Ng Yew-Kwang’s research interests include ethical and welfare economic foundations of public policies; mesoeconomics; inframarginal analysis of specialization; and Chinese economic reforms.

The lecture will take place at 17:30 p.m. on 7 November 2011 in UM’s HG03 Lecture Theatre, Ho Yin Convention Centre. It will be conducted in English, with simultaneous interpretation into Cantonese.
