The 2nd International Conference on Macaology to open in Lisbon on 19 October

The second International Conference on Macaology, which will be held from 19 to 20 October 2011 in Lisbon, Portugal, is organized by Macao Foundation; the University of Macau (UM); and the Institute of Orient of the School of Social and Political Sciences, Technical University of Lisbon. The theme of the conference is “The Investigation and Study of Historical Sources of Macaology”. Approximately thirty scholars from Portugal, the U.S., Belgium, Brazil, Italy, Macao and mainland China will participate in this conference. The organizing committee has invited scholars from the National Library of Portugal, the Overseas Historical Archive (Arquivo Histórico Ultramarino) in Lisbon, and the Ajuda Library in Lisbon to present papers at the conference, and will arrange a visit to the Ajuda Library to give the participants a chance to know more about the current situation about Macao archives and documents in Europe.

The participants of the conference will be from renowned universities and organizations from around the world, such as the Stanford University, the University of Lisbon, Napoli Institute of Orient (Istituto Orientale di Napoli) in Italy, The University of São Paulo, UM, Macao Polytechnic Institute, Beijing Foreign Studies University, the Chinese Academy of social Sciences, and the Social Sciences in China Press. The papers presented at the conference will be published later and it is believed that the conference would make a great contribution to the long-term development of Macaology.
