UM organizes IEEE MTT-S High School Wireless Apps Competition for technology popularization in response to growing demand for mobile Apps development professionals

The University of Macau (UM), together with IEEE Macao AP/MTT Joint Chapter, organized an “IEEE MTT-S High School Wireless Apps Competition” to improve local students’ knowledge on mobile apps development. Dr. Choi Wai Wa of FST, UM, indicated that with the popularization of Smartphone, much attention is paid to the mobile software development by the industry and that mobile software will become one of the most competitive, newly developed industries. Macao requires a large number of talents helping with the development of the technology’s advancement.

The “IEEE MTT-S High School Wireless Apps Competition” has been launched and the work submission deadline is 16th September. Dr. Choi stated that the activity aims at fostering the interest of the new young generation in wireless science and communications technology, inspiring their creativity and popularizing mobile programming technology. In a recent letter sent to UM, Prof. Magdalena Salazar Palma, President of IEEE Antennas and Propagation Society, expressed appreciation about the educational initiatives of the activity, which drives youngsters to utilize the supreme and advanced local mobile network for innovative research and development.

UM has organized two “IEEE MTT-S High School Wireless Apps Seminar Series” during the summer holiday for the contestants to understand more about mobile apps development. The Seminar Series, lectured by the project developer of “SoftFabrique”, a local information technology company specialized in software development, introduced the basic knowledge and structure, development environment and basic operation principle of Android platform. Actual examples are demonstrated to instruct the participants about the manipulation of and practice on the Android system so that they gradually become familiar with the user interface and design of the applications of the system, and hence be able to master the technique for the relevant development.
