UM students Cheong Se Hang and Lee Kai Ip win gold prize at the Amway Computer Project Contest for University Students 2011

Cheong Se Hang and Lee Kai Ip, two students majoring in Software Engineering of the Faculty of Science and Technology, University of Macau (UM), won a gold prize at the Amway Cup Computer Project Contest for University Students 2011, with the project “Lifeline—Point-to-Point Emergency Network”. The other three gold prizes went to National Chengchi University (Taiwan), Hong Kong Polytechnic University, and Hainan University (mainland China).

The contest lasted three months. Participants from 136 higher education institutions from Guangdong province, Yunnan province, Jiangxi province, Hunan province, Fujian province, Guizhou province, Guangxi province, Sichuan province, Hainan province, Chongqing, Hong Kong, Macao and Taiwan submitted nearly four hundred entries, and only fifty-two made it to the final.

The panel of judges for the final was comprised of experts recommended by the participating provinces, cities and regions. Evaluation was made based on the participants’ expressiveness in presentation as well as the subject, scientific elements, originality and practical value of the entry. Finally five gold prizes, ten silver prizes and thirty-seven bronze prizes were awarded.

The project was developed with the guidance from Dr. SI Yain Whar and Dr. U Leong Hou.
