UM organizes a staff visit to the Sao Jose Ka Ho School

In order to promote the traditional virtue of caring for children and encourage staff involvement in community service, the University of Macau (UM) arranged for some staff and family members to visit the Sao Jose Ka Ho School last Saturday (21 May 2011).

Thirty-one UM representatives, including staff and their family members, departed for the Sao Jose Ka Ho School on the morning of 21 May. They were warmly received by the teachers and students of the school. The Sao Jose Ka Ho School was formerly a nursery which was rebuilt into a boarding school in 1973. It is now a mixed boarding school that offers primary education. Upon arrival, UM representatives and the students there played group games which were designed to instill team spirit into the participants. Following the games, UM representatives presented prizes for winners of the games as well as cute stationery as gifts, leaving the children breathless with excitement. Before leaving the school, UM representatives visited the dormitories, classrooms and activity facilities at the school.

This visit is part of the celebratory activities for the 30th anniversary of UM, and also reflects UM’s commitment to fulfilling its social responsibility. This activity has enhanced UM staff’s sense of social responsibility as well as their understanding of the current situation of the children at the Sao Jose Ka Ho School. Participants all felt that this activity is deeply meaning, saying that it gave them a chance to show the children that they are cared about by many people in society.
