UMDF receives a donation of MOP 200 million from Wynn Resorts (Macau) S.A.

Today (16 May) Wynn Resorts (Macau) S.A. donated MOP 200 million to the University of Macau Development Foundation (UMDF) in support of the long-term development of the University of Macau (UM) and its Asia-Pacific Academy of Economics and Management.

At the cheque presentation ceremony, Chair of the Executive Committee of UMDF Dr. Tse Chi Wai received on behalf of UMDF the cheque from Chairman and CEO of Wynn Resorts, Limited Mr. Steve Wynn. Wynn Resorts (Macau) S.A. expressed intention to donate MOP 80 million to UMDF every year for the next eleven years in support of the long-term development of UM and its Asia-Pacific Academy of Economics and Management.

At the cheque presentation ceremony UM Rector Wei Zhao expressed thanks for the generous donation by Wynn Resorts (Macau) S.A. He said: “For many universities over the world, such donations are important as they not only provide needed financial support but they also demonstrate the high level of trust and expectation from society and community. As such, donations have become an indicator of the universities’advancement and reputation. Hence, we are particularly thankful to Mr. Steve Wynn, for the tremendous trust he puts on us! We pledge our on-going commitment and promise to pursue academic excellence and develop this university into a world-class institution that has been encouraged by our central government and SAR government. Thank you again!"

Mr. Steve Wynn said: “With this commitment to the University of Macau Development Foundation, The Board of Directors of Wynn Macau, Limited and all of its shareholders in China and the United States are dedicated to the education of the people of Macau. There is no other commitment more valuable and inspiring than education, which prepares young and talented people for a successful life in a changing world.”

Vice Chairman of the National Committee of the Chinese People’s Political Consultative Conference Mr. Edmund Ho Hau Wah, Mr. Steve Wynn’s wife Mrs. Andrea Wynn, Vice Chairman of Wynn Resorts, Limited Mr. Kazuo Okada, Vice Chairman of Wynn Macau, Limited Mr. Allan Zeman, President of Wynn Resorts (Macau) S.A. Mr. Ian Michael Coughlan, Chief Operating Officer of Wynn Resorts (Macau) S.A. Ms. Linda Chen, and other senior executives of Wynn Resorts (Macau) S.A., as well as UM Rector Wei Zhao, UMDF members, members of UM’s University Assembly and University Council, faculty deans and professors also attended the ceremony.
